Anyone use Flight Sim X?  I just took delivery of some 'Real Scenery' for this sim from Just Flight.  Wow!  It uses satellite photography, and this area around Northern England is amazing.  The clever thing is, the frame rate of the sim is quicker now than it was with the original auto-generated landscape - even with the M6 laden with rush-hour traffic!

Here's a still taken from a flight around the Lake District.  Anyone familiar with the place will recognise this view: it's looking north up Kirkstone Pass.

That looks awesome. Might have to invest in a copy to help keep me in practice in the winter. What graphics card are you using for that?

By the way, you'll fly much faster and save lots of fuel if you put your flaps up, looks like you still got landing flaps deployed ..........LOL

................and we'll have no ribald comments about flaps from you lot, just cos Ozz is away!!!!

Don't you ever fly slowly Yeti..?  LOL

I raised the stalling speed with the flaps, ' cause it's better for sightseeing - and it allows my computer graphics to keep up!  (..I'll post up some more photos later today).

Graphics card is Nvidia 9500GT with 1GB memory.

Yes, of course.  Brain not in gear.  And that pic above shows the view to the south up Kirkstone, not the north!  Ho hum.

Here's a couple more.  The Cessna is overhead Derwent Water; that's Keswick beneath its starboard wing.  The Beech is overhead Lake Windermere, and that's Bowness you can see to its rear.  Lovely place, is Bowness.  I've stayed on that caravan park once or twice!

The water shown in these pics is just that of the satellite image, but the sim can generate nice effects if you so wish.  Here's a Youtube clip of the same scenery add-on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2WEEz10_qU  It's cheap enough at a tenner plus postage from Amazon.

Yes, FSX is good for flight practice, and it's a lot cheaper than doing it for real.  Problem is, using it just makes you want to go flying..!       \LOL/

That looks quite a slippery aircraft Yeti.  Thumbs Up  Not flown anything bigger/faster than a Piper Archer/Cherokee/Warrior myself.  I've never had any ambitions in aviation though.  Sufficient for me to sightsee.

She was a slippery little devil. Was fast as well. We tended to operate her really high, up around FL100 most of the time so descent profiles took quite a bit of planning, especially if you had a tail wind!

She was a piece of p1ss to handle once you had the gear down and got a bit of drag on the thing, but getting down to gear limiting speeds took some doing. When I first bought her, I was forever entering the circuit at warp speed desperately trying to slow her down to circuit speed and scattering Cessna's to the four winds! Was quite a learning curve that one!

Once did Guernsey to Sherburn in an hour and twenty minutes! Mind we had a 35kt wind right up our chuff all the way! I sure miss that baby.

Looks great. My late father in law was really into the MS sims. In fact one of my 'to dos' is to clear out the remaining few bits I have of his including:

MS Flight Simulator 2000
MS Flight Simulator 2004 Century of Flight
Hurricane add on for FS X or 2004

So if anyone is interested let me know to save me listing the stuff....
1098S here and flying....!
