A new one? - about the same as a 1098, just costs less in rebuilds.....

To use the words of a well known tennis player........."you cannot be serious" They will have to realy reduce the power output to that of almost 1098 levels........TongueWink

And what with VW now owning a stake in Suzuki.  Following on from them commisioning design studies around a VW sportsbike who knows what they are planning?  Maybe they would like to take on BMW?

Do I like the looks of the s1000r? Not really but its something I can live with. Same as with some of the other bikes I've owned in the past. 07 zx10r, 03 mille r, 09 hrc blade...not the prettiest on the market, but offered the most in terms of value for money.

All the 3 bikes above never made me go wow, it looks stunning, but had a lot to offer compared to the competition.

If other bikes were still priced around 8-9k, then I would still choose a jap I4, but if the true price(actually sale price and not rrp) is really around 11-13k for a R1 etc, then I would 100% fork out a bit more to get all the goodies that one day I might need.

Nice job BMW.

What, an air cooled flat four, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
I love Carbon & Titanium & hate ugly bikes, you know, the ones that were built after the 916 types and before the 1098 types! My Jota still goes Rumpety Rump!

I was not expecting about £14k. I thought it would have been a lot more than that.

Having read quite a few reveiws on the S1000 RR it would seem to be obviously faster 1/4 mile time of 10.20 @149Mph. against the blade 10.4  @ 144 Mph with a higher top speed, the handling seems to be better on the track but the engine does vibrate quite a lot more and is missing a large amounts midrange, comfort and general road compliance in comparison.I would seem that the S1000RR has been designed to be a very fast track biased bike with concessions made for outright speed against road biased useability with a power delivery more akin to a 600 with obviously much more power. So as with most forms of extracting more outright BHP,its all at the detriment of usable mid range and real world grunt.

That BMW was putting out over 190bhp on the same dyno after it had done another 2000 miles ...

For me it's the traction control system which BMW are using that is the most interesting development because it will be TC and not the engine power that will allow the average rider to get the most from the bike - without risking serious injury Embarrassed
